Application deadline:

At Octopus Hydrogen we're creating a distributed green hydrogen generation and supply network. Our plan is to supply 100% green hydrogen to operators of vehicles where batteries and electrification aren't viable options, such as HGVs, planes, and buses. This isn’t limited to a UK opportunity, this is a global challenge that needs to be solved.

Our Commercial team are responsible for finding the right sites for production of green hydrogen, negotiating commercial terms, and providing detailed analysis and models to back up our decisions.

We’re looking for someone who is an experienced energy professional, with a background in research and analysis but able to add value across a broad range of areas. This role will be very varied, between identifying which countries to operate in, identification and pricing of specific opportunities, through to providing input into planning applications, and assisting with financial reporting on operational sites.

As a Senior Research & Commercial Analyst, you will:

  • Lead research into European energy markets, policy, and pricing to inform business strategy for hydrogen production and demand.
  • Build and refine optimisation models for hydrogen production co-located with renewable projects.
  • Be responsible for commercial modelling of opportunities.
  • Identify, report and monitor risks to the business.
  • Be proactive in researching and identifying solutions to novel problems.
  • Provide input into planning applications, working with the engineering team.
  • Monitor active contracts, to ensure financial targets are being met.
  • Work closely with the Head of Commercial & Origination on deal structuring, partnering with renewable developers, and engaging with other energy market participants.
  • Share energy knowledge with the wider Octopus Hydrogen team.

You may be a fit if you:

  • Have strong technical energy industry experience, particularly with a pricing, research or trading analyst background.
  • Understand your DUoS from your BSUoS - or their European equivalents.
  • Have a knowledge of renewable generation and/or battery optimisation.
  • Are happy to pitch in, and be proactive - the role is partly yours to define.
  • Have excellent Excel skills, and a knowledge of Python is desirable.
  • Enjoy sharing knowledge and working with others as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Are intellectually curious, and a great problem solver.
  • Able to condense very complex energy industry concepts and calculations into the most salient points.
  • Are honest and own your mistakes.

Don't worry if you don't meet all of the criteria we've listed here. We'd still like to hear from you.

What we’re offering:

  • A competitive salary of between 40 and 65K depending on experience
  • Open to this being a part-time position (4 days/week)
  • Share options in the business
  • The chance to create a hydrogen market and build a business at the forefront of decarbonising transport
  • Unlimited annual leave, with the expectation you take at least 25 days
  • Remote working from within the UK. You will need to be able to visit our Bristol office every now and then
  • Genuinely flexible working hours, it’s your choice as long as the work gets done
  • SmartPension Scheme - employer 5% employee 3% and you can contribute more
